Renal Cancer – Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

Renal cancer, commonly referred to as kidney cancer, can be caused by several factors. It mainly impacts two kidney regions: the pelvis and the renal tubular region. This affects the kidneys’ ability to function properly, as they are responsible for ultrafiltration of the electrolytes, minerals, and excess fluid. It’s essential to know the symptoms of kidney cancer, such as blood in the urine, fatigue, and aches in the lower back, for a better prognosis.

Stages

  • Stage 1 where the diameter of a tumor is 7 centimeters confined to a single region.
  • In the second stage, the tumor grows larger gradually but does not get displaced.
Renal Cancer – Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
  • In the third stage, the tumor cells start to proliferate and get displaced in the adjacent areas. It then enters the surrounding lymph nodes. This is the point when malignancies get initiated.
  • In the last stage, the cells invade more lymph node and go to distant body parts. Thus, the renal carcinoma can be found in two orders the benign and the malignant.
  • What are the causes of renal cancer?
There are several factors that aggravate the instances of renal cancer

    • Genetic factors are a common cause of renal cancer. Hypernephroma or kidney cancer is caused when the cells that comprise the kidney proliferate uncontrollably at a restricted site causing benign renal carcinoma or the primary stages of cancer.
This occurs because the cell loses control over the cell cycle as the DNA gets mutated. Once the cell moves to the adjacent areas and metastasizes, the malignancies develop which are difficult to be cured.
  • Obese patients develop a high risk of getting renal cancer as the hormones are under-regulated.
  • It is significantly affecting the male population that is at a higher risk. This may get aggravated if they happen to be chain smokers.
  • Genetic inheritance is a prominent factor that is responsible to carry the disease in the genes generation after generations.
  • The kidney function gets depleted with old age that is also driving cause for the occurrence of kidney cancer.
  • If the subject is exposed to radioactive and hazardous chemicals like benzene, cadmium, asbestos for a long time, there can be chances to have the disease.
  • If the subject is previously diagnosed with other kidney related problems like kidney failure, the risk of cancer gets increased.
  • Hypertension or increased blood pressure is another predominant cause that causes renal cancer.
  • What are the symptoms of renal cancer?
    The kidney cancer accompanies with no contrasting symptoms in the initial stages. There can be some of the prominent symptoms that may develop in the later phase of cancer which includes;

    • The appearance of traces of blood in the urine during the advanced stages of renal cancer.
    • Unexplained loss of weight and appetite.
    • Intermittent fever that abruptly rises and falls.
    • Lower back pain that gets aggravated at instances.
    • Loss of energy and getting tired easily.
    • Inflammation of the legs that is uncontrollable.

How can renal cancer be treated?
Once a patient is diagnosed with renal carcinoma there are many treatment options available for the patients.

    • One of the methods that are used in treatment is the localized treatment when the initial stages of cancer are being encountered.
    • Some of the other way f treating renal cancer is through the systemic treatment where drugs are given to reduce the complication that gets penetrate directly into the circulation. This is dependent on the stage of cancer.
    • There are other treatments when the kidney cancer has reached the advanced stages. For instance, the palliative treatments relieve the pain but are not in lieu of completely curing cancer.
    • The patient can go for a surgery that helps to remove a tumor.
